A ‘positive future’ for Stanhope Hall

Stanhope Hall used is used by various community organisations and is a popular venue for social functions.

It closed during the two lockdowns this year while other events had to be reduced or cancelled because of Covid-19 regulations.

However, town councillor Brian Burbidge - chairman of the hall’s trustees, says progress had been made.

He confirmed the level of advanced bookings to hire the hall in 2021 and 2022 was encouraging.

Speaking at last week’s town council meeting, Coun Burbidge said: “Like most 
other businesses, we have had a terrible time this year - as you can imagine.

“However, we are a successful organisation. We have money in the bank and while we are dependant on what happens with Covid-19, the future is very positive.”

Coun Burbidge said a £10,000 Government grant for small businesses had eased any financial pressures caused by the pandemic.

He highlighted a number of successful events, including when the hall was hired by the Horncastle Medical practice for flu vaccinations with over 900 patients seen in one day.

He admitted some projects had been put on hold although the floor in the main hall had been refurbished.

He revealed some occupiers of office space had renewed their contracts and discussions were ongoing with a potential new client.

Coun Burbidge confirmed he hoped to get permission from the Charity Commission to delay an annual meeting. until Covid restrictions eased.

The hall is set to return to town council ownership next year as it is one of the 14 assets being transferred from East Lindsey District Council.
